The English Zonen 09 blog

I have been promising this for way too long but here it finally is. The English Zonen 09 blog. From now on, all relevant Dutch posts will get translated and posted here. Because for now paying a translator for every post out there is not something that is possible, you might (or better: you will) run into some weird English words, spelling mistakes and I guess some ‘Dutch English’ as my husband calls it. I hope you can forgive us for our lack of perfect English and will enjoy what we have to tell you here.

skitch-2The last few weeks I have been getting the same question from different people. What was I working on? Was everything ok? I was kind of quiet and in the background? I was and it felt weird for me too but I had to focus on something else than social media.  For a year now I had been putting all of the much needed website improvements into a Trello board (great tool for those who like to put things in lists). I ended up with a huge list and really underestimated the time I would need to take that one on. Once I got started I had to go the extra mile and just finish it. Even it that meant I wasn’t creating and posting anything of real DIY worth. Now the site is finally finished and I am really happy with the result. The most important changes?

  • It looks different.
  • My Dutch customers can read through the site in their own language now.
  • The sewing patterns got divided into the available languages and versions (digital versus paper). It is much more transparant now.
  • An automatic Instagram feed with pictures you tagged with #zonen09.
  • And lots of other stuff like our map with stockists, a press page, customer testimonials, and so on.

A new site deserves a party and presents. That is why I am offering a 10% discount with the code DANKJEWEL on all orders placed before Sunday February 7th.

Next to working on the website, I was also searching for a new business card idea. Since the rebranding last year, I did not order any new ones. I did not like the standard choices but could not come up with anything I really liked. Until a few months ago a customer was checking out my fair booth and she wanted to take home one of these pins. I use them to show people examples of what customers make with our products. I told her the pins were not really intended for taking home and then asked myself ‘why not?’. I knew I found the perfect business card idea.

Zonen 09 businesscards

On Instagram I often show what customers make with my sewing patterns and organic fabric. I then tag those images with #whatcustomersmade. You can find the same thing on the new instagram/polaroid/pinterest-like business cards. On the backside you can find my contact information and some space for writing something down. On the front side there is an image of a customer creation, the Zonen 09 symbol, the hashtag #whatcustomersmade and the blog/flickr/instagram/facebook/does-not-matter url to the customer creation featured in the image.

Zonen 09 businesscards

On these mock-ups you can see my own url and creations but that has to change in the final copies. Those cards (I hand them out at network events, fairs, meetings) will  showcase customer creations. That is why I am looking for 24 pictures of Zonen 09 creations. Two per sewing pattern, preferably a boy and girl version per pattern, and 4 pictures of creations with the GOTS certified Zonen 09 fabric. I know I can find many pictures on Instagram, Pinterest, Flickr, and so on, but for this kind of press work there are a few conditions.

Would you like your creation to be featured on the Zonen 09 business cards? Then please email me ( the following before Wednesday February 10th:

  • 1 to maximum 3 landscape pictures of your creation (Bright, sharp pictures have the best chance at getting chosen.)
  • in high resolution
  • with the url we can put below the image
  • your full name and address (So we can send you a couple of cards if your picture is used.)

I would love to know what you think about the new website, the English blog and the business card idea. All remarks, good and bad, are appreciated!
